How Bright Bubs works
A photo of a toy, a game for your child's age, and a few good minutes together.
Bright Bubs is an app for parents of children from birth to five. You take a photo of a toy or an everyday thing in your home, and a few seconds later you have a short game made for your child's age. Then the phone goes away, and the play happens between the two of you.
What you do
You need a toy, a photo and a few minutes.
Step 1
Take a photo of a toy.
Point your phone at a toy or an everyday thing, such as a set of blocks, a teddy bear or a wooden spoon. Bright Bubs recognizes it and keeps it in your child's toy box.
Step 2
Read the game.
The game tells you what to set up, what to do, what to say and what your child might do. It takes about a minute to read.
Step 3
Play together.
The phone goes in your pocket, and you play on the floor, at the table or in the bath. If the game is too easy or too hard today, the game shows you a way to make it easier or to take it further.
For your child
Your child gets play that fits their age, with the toys they already love.
Learning in six areas of play.
Each game names what your child is learning, from reaching and grasping to first words and taking turns. Over a week, the games move between the areas, so your child gets a little of everything.
Games that grow with your child.
Bright Bubs uses your child's age in months, so the same blocks get a new game as your child grows, from knocking a tower down to counting it up.
Your full attention.
Your child never uses the phone. For those few minutes, your child has you, a toy and a game made for them.
Room to lead.
The games let your child go first, and you follow what your child chooses to do, because children learn well when an adult sets up the play and then follows their lead.

You get a good idea at the right moment, and the words to go with it.
No planning.
You do not need to search for ideas or buy anything new. A game starts from what is already in your home, and some games need nothing at all except you.
The words to say.
Each game tells you what to say, what to do and what to look for, so you can enjoy what your child does instead of wondering what to do next.
A reason for what you do.
Each game explains why one small thing you do helps, such as copying what your child does. The reasons come from published research on how young children play.
Something new to notice.
Each game tells you what your child might do, so you see the small changes in your child from month to month.
In the app
Everything around the games is there to make play easier.
Your child's toy box.
Every toy you photograph stays in the toy box with its games. You can put a toy away for a while and bring it back later with new games for your child's new age.
Games for any moment.
When you have no toy at hand, Bright Bubs has games that need nothing but you, and games for places such as the bath or a waiting room.
A timeline with your notes.
Each child has a timeline of the games you played, so you can find a favorite again. You can add a few words and a photo, such as the evening your child played drums on a saucepan.
Shared with your partner.
You can invite your child's other parent, and you both see the same children, toys, games and notes. For now, sharing is for the two of you. Later, we may add a way to share with a grandparent or a nanny too.
Toy ideas when the time is right.
When a new age would open up new games, Bright Bubs suggests a kind of toy, says which games it would add, and names an everyday thing that might do the same job. It never names a brand or a shop.
Made with care
Every game is made for your child, and prepared with care before you see it.
Bright Bubs uses AI to recognize your toy and to write a game around it, because no list written in advance can know your toy. The parts of a game that need to be right every time are prepared in advance from published sources: what what your child is learning, the reason behind what you do, and a short note on playing safely with that toy at your child's age.
Every game is checked before it reaches you, and a game that does not fit your child's age is never shown. Your photos are cropped to the toy on your phone, and Bright Bubs shows no ads.
